Wealth Inequality in America

Infographics on the distribution of wealth in America, highlighting both the inequality and the difference between our perception of inequality and the actual numbers. The reality is often not what we think it is.
I found this video in a FB post from my Senator. The clear description is perfectly supported by the animated graphics. Together, the dramatic message is powerful and undisputable.
What am I getting myself into?
The story of seven people caught trespassing at 12:30am doesn’t pass the smell test. They said they were recently graduated chemical engineers curious about the reservoir. WTF at 12:30 am? Something stinks in that story.
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts state police say they and the FBI are investigating a trespassing incident at the Quabbin Reservoir but have no evidence of terrorism.
The central Massachusetts reservoir supplies drinking water to Boston.
State Police spokesman David Procopio says Tuesday night that a trooper saw two cars parked at a reservoir park entrance at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, then saw five young men and two young women walking toward them from the reservoir.
Procopio said they are from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Singapore with addresses in Amherst, Cambridge, Sunderland and Northampton, and New York City. He said law enforcement databases show no warrants, detainers or advisories on them.
The men told police they are recently graduated chemical engineers curious about the reservoir.
Procopio said they will be summoned to court later on trespassing charges.
And so now the Democratic Party is faced with a serious existential challenge. To be a true alternative to the Republican Party or to be Republican Light. And no, it is not the public that has some consensus both parties must placate – the overwhelming majority of Americans oppose cuts to Social Security and Medicare. This is an elite agenda not a public one. If the progressives prevail the Corporate Democrats will find their home in the private sector, just a little early. If the Neoliberal/SPEC faction wins it will be the beginning of the end for the safety net as America lurches towards further social and political disintegration.
An exercise in seeing.
Q. Looking at the graphic what differences are seen?
A. Squares of two different sizes, small and big.
A. Four of the small squares make one big square.
A. A matrix of squares equal a large square.
Next count every square of the two sizes and tally the count.
|4×4 = 1||2×2 = 2|
|3×3 = 4||1×1 = 8|
|2×2 = 9||tally 10|
|1×1 = 16|
|Total = 40|
Greetings to family, friends, ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, and all citizens. Some of you may remember The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) that was negotiated by President H.W. Bush in 1992 and enacted by President Clinton in 1994. If you’ve lived through the NAFTA implementation you’ve witnessed the blooming corporatocracy, income disparity, the bubble economy, plutocracy, wall street bailouts, unemployment, currency manipulation, unmanaged immigration, ignoring climate change, for profit healthcare, water scarcity, and the list goes on. One question: where are the benefits of NAFTA?
There is now a new international trade deal that president Obama has been very quietly negotiating for the past three years called the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP). It appears to me to be a big step toward a global corporatocracy run by Trans-National Corporations which will have legal ruling over Nation-States. Think about that. Is that the world you want?
I intend to learn about this. You?
Live Science is reporting on a recent study in Boston, MA proper that found over 3,300 natural gas leaks – some of which are potentially hazardous. Timely finding especially now after the natural gas explosion in Springfield, MA on Friday Nov., 23, that damaged 42 buildings and hurt 18 people. Springfield, MA gas explosion video. Emergency responders audio.
I have to ask – Who’s the responsible party? I think it’s the utility company. But it may be a private/public mix. Whatever, it needs attention to prevent a disaster.
UPDATE Feb. 18, 2013: A gas leak disaster was narrowly avoided Monday night by the fast action of fire fighters evacuating over 100 residents from their homes in the 200 section of Broadway, Chelsea, MA. When fire fighters arrived on scene and entered an apartment they found explosive levels of natural gas inside. As no source of the gas was apparent the decision to evacuate the residents to prevent loss of life was called. The utility company located the broken gas main on Cherry St. Repairs have started.
